The Johnny Nelson Katy Heritage Museum was opened on June 13, 2002. The 9,600-square-foot Katy Heritage Museum was formally opened with a broadax that had been used to shred binders in the early days of the Katy Independent School District. The museum, which is located on the second floor of the Historic Preservation and Education Center at 5414 Franz Road in Katy, TX area, is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Katy through exhibits, programs, and events. The museum accomplishes this by collecting, preserving, and interpreting artifacts and documents that reflect the history of Katy and the surrounding area.
The Heritage Society operates the Johnny Nelson Katy Heritage Museum, which is housed in the Historic Preservation and Education Center. They are a group of local residents who are interested in preserving the history of Katy. The Society offers membership to individuals, families, businesses, and organizations.
The walls of the Katy Heritage Museum are covered with antique photographs. Along with the images, it also boasts a sizable collection of trinkets and antiques. Since the structure is divided into several sections, the museum has enough room to show everything. Vintage cars, fire engines, and old J.V. Cardiff & Sons Rice Drier signs are a few of these treasures. Special private tours of the museum can be arranged for schools, clubs, and other organizations.
