The Johnson Space Center (JSC) is the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) center for human spaceflight activity. Located in Houston, Texas, JSC is home to astronaut training and flight control for NASA’s manned space programs. JSC also manages research and development projects for advanced space exploration technologies. It is one of ten NASA field centers around the country. It is named after former NASA administrator James E. Webb. The sprawling 1,620-acre campus houses over 100 laboratories, wind tunnels, and simulators, as well as the Mission Control Center. In addition to its role in human spaceflight, JSC is also responsible for developing robotic spacecraft, managing scientific research on the ISS, and operating NASA’s iconic Hubble Space Telescope and James Webb Telescope. JSC’s current mission is to return humans to the Moon by 2024 as part of NASA’s Artemis program. The center is also working on developing commercial crew vehicles that will transport astronauts to and from the ISS. Today, it continues to play a vital role in enabling humans to explore and work in space.
